While LifeLine Animal Project’s management has dramatically lowered the euthanasia rate at DeKalb County Animal Services (DCAS), with half of all litters unplanned, there is always more we can do to reduce intake. Hoping to stem the number of animals coming in, LifeLine is implementing SNIP DeKalb (Spay Neuter Impact Program), which will provide free spay/neuters for cats and medium-large breed dogs, along with free vaccinations, for DeKalb County pet owners who need our help.

julieadopted02According to LifeLine’s DCAS Shelter Director Kerry Moyers-Horton, spaying and neutering is critical in reducing the number of homeless and unwanted pets entering the shelter during warmer months. “We see a staggering number of unwanted pets in DeKalb County, and the main reason is because people are not fixing their pets,” she says. “By eliminating financial barriers and encouraging DeKalb County residents to get their pets fixed, we hope to see a drastic reduction in the number of dogs and cats entering our shelter.” Dogs can be fixed as early as eight weeks, and cats can as early as ten weeks, so do not wait and miss out on these limited funds.

DeKalb residents who own cats or medium-large breed dogs that cannot afford to pay for low-cost spay/neuter services themselves should print and fill out the SNIP DeKalb Application Form and then mail it in, or drop it off at the DCAS shelter at 3280 Chamblee Dunwoody Rd. Chamblee, GA 30341 (where applications are also available). When approved, applicants will receive a voucher for a free spay/neuter and instructions in the mail.

Help us spread the word about SNIP DeKalb by printing out and hanging up this SNIP DeKalb color flyer or  SNIP DeKalb black and white flyer all over DeKalb County!
